Guys, which way of tying the wings do you prefer or you think is proper?Veniard in his Guide shows both methods each one producing diferrent profile of final wings and fly itself. I personally thing that method Down is a bit against the grain, against the natural curve of fibres to be exact. The Down method seems to be producing wings that will lay along the shank once pressed by the current.Simillar thing with Dee Strip Wings. They close and open in diferrent manner depending on the way you tie them down. Will be nice to hear from others as I started simillar thread on Polish site and my fellow tyers seem to accept only Up way. Regards from Poland-Hubert
I usually tie my wings in the up way for 90% of my flies. The only exception is when I would be tying a Butcher or similar type of attractor pattern.I find the profile is better on these flies with the down method.I must say however that I only use slip wings on occasion and really only put them on flies that I've been asked to tie by others. I know alot of people who still use slip wing patterns and they generally use the up method too.
All the best, Bob.
P.s. Is there any chance of you posting some fully dressed examples? Your dressings are usually good for a couple of trout on my local river.
Hi Bob.Do you mean fully dressed wet fly patterns?I hope so,as I do not really tie fully dressed salmon flies.I will have a look in my comp if I have something to offer. Hubert
