Less than a year after its formation, The Angling Trust, which brought together sea, coarse and game anglers is struggling to mount serious numbers in membership. What do anglers want this body to do to win them over and join?
I have spoken to several other anglers of various disciplines ie sea and coarse anglers as well as game fishers on the subject of the Trust. There seems to be a general view which I can only describe as cinisism, anglers it appears do not trust the Trust!.
Comments such as "They are just creating employment for an elite few who will probably fly round the world to exotic destinations on fact finding tours at our expense." have been made. Others think the Trust will be a toothless tiger able to make a lot of noise but with no power to actually do anything so why support it?
I will reserve my own judgement and see what happens.
I cant really add much to this being from Ireland, but I have to say that the idea seems good.A unified approach will always have a strong voice. On the issue of trust that Ruby made I feel the best solution would be to elect the board from the various clubs around the U.K. Bringing the "on the ground experience" to organisations as large as this is vital.Maybe appointing a well known person, someone associate with angling through media for example,as spokesperson or director.
