Hi Del,
I would recommend a 9.6 or 10 ft. rod rated for a #7 line. I know there's a trend to fish 5 weights at the moment but if you want to fish sinking lines or need to cast heavy lures then a 7 weight is a better option. I can only give a rough estimation on price in stirling because I don't order much gear from the U.K. My rod of choice at the moment is "The Gordon Mk 2" from Sharpes. I think this is truely wonderfull rod. It should cost between £120-£140. The GRXi from greys is also a nice rod and should only set you back about £75. Finally, although I have not tried any of they're recent models, Shakespeare rods have always had a good reputation here in Ireland and could merrit a look. The most important thing is not to be rushed into a purchase. Make sure you are comfortable with the rod as you could be using it for long periods. |

Del
I would recomend thr Grey's GRXi 9'6" #7. It is a very nice rod to cast as well as being very forgiving and within your budget. I know quite a few people who have one of these rods as well as myself and you would not be disappointed.

Hi Del, I personally wouldn't recomend a shakespeare, bought one a couple of years ago and within a few months the joint was so slack the tip section kept twisting and would even come apart when casting! I know its a bit more money but I'm using a partridge s 10' #7 now and its brilliant.I would also recomend the redington red fly 2,I have the 8'6" #5 which I find very good and I'm sure the larger models would be just as good and more like the price you're looking to pay. If you can,try before you buy. |

hi del, i would second the greys grxi been using one for a while no complaints. good rod took a 10.4 lb rainbow with it an it coped fine . norm around the £100. mine is a 6/7 but i choose a 6 line but as someone else said a 7 gives you more scope for fluffys , wet lines and WIND . also its a 10 ft and found this good on a boat .
erm . . ? hackle pliers |
