Regarding Fly fishing for Coarse fish - I have been doing this for the past 12-13 years, fishing a small tributary river to the R Wey.
Basically, you need to scale down if your intended quarry is small fish. I regularly catch Dace on small dry flies. They are incredibly quick on the take and your reaction needs to be very quick in order to connect with the fish.
I am in the process of writing a short talk on this subject that will be presented in a few weeks time to a local fishing club. If anyone is interested in the subject, I would be willing to discuss further.
