Hi Miko
I'm asuming the results will appear on the web about the same time the magazine comes out. Same as last month.
In the next week or so.

If you take time to study the results you will notice that only the top 110 are published in the magazine!
Which means the magazine is out and we are still awaiting the results! |

Hi Magnus Just a short one to say thanks for all the hard work and effort that you personally have put in to the running of this competition. May I be the first to congratulate Miko And Trevor on winning their respective sections "Well done gentlemen" and God willing we will all be back next year.
Thanks Again Peter

Enjoyed the competition again this year, but what is it with round three? Last year that horrible wing on the Blue Charm, and this year a double head hackle It would be interesting to know how many entrants wound the Blue Jay, and how many spun it.
What did the rest of you think of the choice of flys this year?
Regards Billy |

Hey Billy. You asked the question, how did people use the blue jay? I can only speak for myself, but I find it makes for a nicer fly if you wind the blue jay, it was the method I was taught when I first started flytying. As for the choice of patterns, I thought they made it fair for all, because the materials required were things which most of us would have had in our kit anyway, so we did not have to go to the expense of ordering a particular material we may not use again. I would like to thank Magnus for doing such a fantatic job, it must be very difficult when loads of flies arrive on your desk, when all you what to do is wet a line. Oh!Magnus, why did you think I needed a yellow card about a month ago, I promise i've been good, I don't think I've caught a bigger fish than you, then again thinking about it I don't even catch the small ones these days, sorry if I gave you the hump. I am sure knowing that the flies will be auctioned off, all of us hope they raise a decent amount for people who are less well off than most of us. regards trevor jones |

Hi Guys
Billy - I take your point about the challenging wing last year and the hackle this. I might not choose to tie flies like that, which of course is part of the plan (as if we have a plan :-) For most entrants the League offers a challenge - we do try to ensure the flies are do-able.
Hey - now you have those skills I wonder if I can find a fly with a triple hackle for next year
But seriously - I like your question about the choice of fly and opinions from entrants would be useful.
Some entrants did spin the jay, most wound it.
Trevor - I was only messing about - please don't take it so seriously - I didn't take the hump.
For this year I tried to ensure all the materials were at least available through specialist shops. Most of the materials are what I regard as staple tying fodder. The few more unusual feathers and what have you required for the League this year may not be found on every fly but hopefully they won't just gather dust at the back of the drawer.

Caught 2 finnocks on Friday with the round 3 Invicta so maybe all the pain was worth it I had never used Partridge before, but have tied up a few variants of traditionals with the Partridge as a sparse front hackle. They have all caught fish, but at this time of year, in Lewis, fish are so hungry I sometimes think pattern doesn't matter that much. The real test will come if it ever warms up.
Overall I thought the choice of flys was excellent this year. First two, most entrants would be familiar with. For me, a tricky third fly, and something different (again for me) to finish.
Certainly passed a few winter evenings.
One quick idea on the issue of results, which must be a pain for you every year Magnus. If entrants included an email address on their forms then it would be a one off job to set up an email group to send out results.
Thanks again Billy |

Hi Magnus. Is it good that the league has finished, bet you don't know what to do with yourself, (as if) I was only pulling your leg, if you knew me you would know I couln't be serious if I tried, thank you for looking kindly on my flies, after seeing the result I was thrilled to bits, especially to see my daughter Stephanie made the top 50. Magnus if you are ever down in N Wales please give me a call and we can have a days fishing together some of our brown trout fishing is brilliant, the seatrout ain't bad either, along with the bass and mullet, makes for interesting fishing Look forward to meeting you one day regards to you and all the staff. |

Got to agree with all, A good choice of flies with easy to find materials. Congratulations to the winners, and Thankyou Magnus for your time and effort with the organisation of the League. |

Thanks guys
Trevor Stephanie's final round entry meant she came second equal for that round - excellent tying! - guess who she was equal with.
As you know juniors are included with all you old timers - we're considering a Junior League to try and encourage more young tyers.

Hi Magnus. That will be really good news if you decide to include a junior section. We actually had three juniors enter flies from our branch of the Flydressers Guild, Steph put entries in for all four rounds, unfortunately the other two only entered the first round due to school commitments not allowing them to attend the guild nights, the kids are the future so we need to encourage them to continue. Even if you don't run a junior section, maybe you could consider a prize for top junior, It's just crossed my mind does Steph qualify for one of the round prizes for her fourth round points, or are the round prizes awarded for overall round placings? Regards Trevor. |

Hi Trevor
The prizes are not really my domain. As far as know they're awarded for League position after each round.
We did think about a junior prize - if the Junior League is a non starter I'll push for that next year.
